25 years on, it's a story worth remembering

There are some stories we remember because they changed the world. And there are others we remember because they remind us what people are capable of when the world changes around them.

This October, we’re bringing COME FROM AWAY to the main auditorium of Theatre Severn, and, 25 years after the events of 11 September 2001, this remarkable musical feels especially poignant.

When the attacks of 9/11 closed American airspace, 38 planes were unexpectedly diverted to the tiny Canadian island of Newfoundland. Close to 7,000 passengers, complete strangers from all over the world, suddenly found themselves stranded far from home.

What happened next wasn’t about fear or division. It was about people opening their doors, sharing what they had, and looking after one another.

COME FROM AWAY tells that true story with extraordinary warmth, humour, humanity and music. It doesn’t attempt to diminish the terrible events of 9/11 — instead, it shines a light on one small, remarkable response to them: the kindness of ordinary people at an extraordinary moment.

As we reach the 25th anniversary this year, we think that message is worth remembering.
