Every time the curtain goes up, the audience sees the cast. What they don't always see is the cast of hundreds (well... dozens!) working behind the scenes to make the magic happen. Sets don't build themselves, sound and lighting aren't operated by a magic switch, costumes don't magically mend overnight, posters don't leap onto noticeboards, and the tea urn certainly doesn't switch itself on.

Our community theatre group survives and thrives because of its volunteers. Quite simply, without people willing to muck in, there would be no productions and no applause.

Naturally, we're always ready to welcome volunteers at Shrewsbury Musical Theatre Company.

It's a two way thing. You help us and we help you. There have been many volunteers who have gained hands-on experience and gone on to work in professional theatre after learning the ropes with us. Having SMTC experience on your CV means you've worked in a professional theatre environment and have enhanced your skills for the future, whether or not you wish to progress into professional theatre.

Equally, we've had people in the past who discovered their transferable skills could be put to great use and in return, they gained new friendships and became part of a wonderful community who enjoy working together.

What's more, people involved with us, on and off-stage, know that they're part of something truly special.

Below are some examples of SMTC volunteer job descriptions. Don't be put off if you see something you like the sound of, but don't have the experience. We can help you gain that experience.

Remember, that extra pairs of hands is always welcomed. The more help we have, the more we spread the workload, and the greater our community becomes.
