Be part of our 'time capsule'!

SMTC’s Centenary year may be over, but our important history project continues, with another series of oral history interviews scheduled for May 2024. Thanks to the funding received from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, we've established a cosy interview space where you're invited to join us for a chat and a cuppa, sharing your past experiences with SMTC, formerly known as SAOS (Shrewsbury Amateur Operatic Society). Whether you trod the boards yourself, have cherished tales passed down through generations, assisted backstage or front of house, or you’ve simply been a long-time audience member, we'd love to hear your stories. We're equally keen to engage with those currently or recently involved with SMTC, as the captured audio recordings will be officially preserved by Shropshire Archives, ensuring future generations can appreciate and learn from these captivating narratives.

We currently have daytime interview slots available at The Trinity Centre in Meole Brace, Shrewsbury, on Wednesday, May 15th, and Saturday, May 18th. The process will typically take around an hour to an hour and a half of your time. Your contribution will really go a long way towards helping preserve Shrewsbury's musical theatre heritage and documenting the evolution of entertainment in Shropshire. Your memories will be akin to a 'time capsule,' awaiting discovery by future researchers, scholars and academics.

If you're unable to attend one of the scheduled interviews at the Trinity Centre, we plan to conduct further sessions there. Alternatively, one of our 'Memory Catchers' can arrange to come to you at a mutually convenient time in the near future. Just let us know what works for you.

If you haven't seen it already, you can view a selection of previously shared memories in the film below, created for our Centenary exhibition at Shrewsbury Museum last autumn.

For more information or to book an interview slot, email us at smtc-history@outlook.com or reach out to us via our social media channels. We look forward to hearing your stories!
