Unveiling a century of memories

Unveiling a century of memories

You’ve seen the shows. Now see the movie!

Throughout 2023, SMTC has been commemorating a century of captivating musical theatre. The year has been nothing short of spectacular! From the standing ovations at 'Sunshine On Leith' in spring to the emotional journey through 'A Century Of Songs' in summer, and the roaring success of 'School of Rock' in November, each production left its mark on Theatre Severn audiences. The exceptional highs of multiple standing ovations will be remembered for a long time to come.

It has been a year of making new memories as well as celebrating those from the past.

In partnership with The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Shrewsbury Town Council, we curated a mesmerising 9 week exhibition at Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery over the autumn period. Showcasing memorabilia dating back to our inaugural 1923 production, alongside snippets of nostalgic interviews in a poignant short film, the exhibition breathed life into cherished memories and offered a glimpse into our vibrant history. If you missed the exhibition, you can now see the film and catch your own glimpse of this evocative journey via the SMTC YouTube channel. It's not only a chance for us to share treasured memories but also to extend the joy we've experienced throughout the years, including amusing tales, heartfelt anecdotes, and memories of dear friends.

The oral history project will continue into 2024, so if you're interested in being interviewed and having your spoken accounts preserved in the Shropshire Archive, drop us a line at the following email address and we'll get the ball rolling:

The physical memorabilia donations from the exhibition will also be preserved in the Archive and will be digitised, ensuring accessibility for all who wish to delve into SMTC's rich history in years to come.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the most remarkable 100 years of memories!
