Shrewsbury Musical Theatre Company (SMTC) is seeking visionary creatives to bring two of the world’s most beloved modern musicals to life in 2026.
Following a string of incredible successes, SMTC is preparing for one of our most ambitious seasons yet. We are looking for passionate, innovative, and collaborative individuals to fill the roles of Show Director and Musical Director for both productions, alongside a Choreographer for our high-energy production of We Will Rock You.

The Productions
Come From Away 🌎✈️
- Venue: Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury
- Roles Available: Show Director/Choreographer, Musical Director
- The Vision: This is a rare and exciting opportunity to stage the Shropshire premiere of a modern masterpiece. Come From Away requires a sensitive, fast-paced, cast-focused approach. We are looking for a team that can capture the heartbeat of Newfoundland, balancing raw emotion alongside relentless energy.
We Will Rock You 🎸⚡
- Venue: Centenary Theatre, Wellington
- Roles Available: Show Director, Musical Director, Choreographer/Dance Lead (Volunteer/Unpaid)
- The Vision: We need a team ready to crank the volume to eleven. This show demands a "rock concert" aesthetic, powerhouse vocals and high-octane choreography. We are seeking a creative trio who can blend Ben Elton’s dystopian comedy with the legendary stadium-fillers of Queen.
The Opportunities
Show Director & Musical Director
We are looking for experienced leaders who can manage the technical and emotional demands of these scripts. Whether you are an established director with a portfolio of musical theatre or an MD with a knack for complex harmonies and driving rock scores, we offer a supportive environment and a dedicated production team to help realise your vision.
Choreographer (We Will Rock You only)
Please note: This is a volunteer/unpaid position. Are you a movement specialist looking to make your mark on a massive production? We need a Choreographer for We Will Rock You who can handle everything from futuristic ensemble movement to iconic rock-and-roll dance breaks, keeping the movement simple but effective. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase your talent to a wide audience.
Please note that the Musical Director and Choreographer can be part time/workshop based and responsibilites can be shared among the candidates specialisms.
